Abacus Signs Innovative Structured ASIC Franchise with eASIC

eASIC’s Nextreme Threatens FPGA and ASIC Technologies

Newbury, UK, 25 June, 2007 – Abacus Group today announced that it has signed an agreement with eASIC Corporation, a provider of Structured ASIC devices, to offer UK FPGA, ASIC and embedded systems designers with a low power consumption, low unit cost and zero NRE alternative technology.

Under the agreement, Abacus will provide design-in, technical, sales and logistical support for customers working with eASIC technology in the UK. The eASIC Nextreme devices address the growing gap between FPGA and ASIC technologies, that has widened as spiralling mask costs reduce the viability of the traditional ramp from FPGA to standard cell ASIC. eASIC’s innovative technology offers many of the benefits of standard cell ASIC, including low price, high performance and low power consumption. It has achieved this without surrendering the major advantages of FPGAs, such as no up front mask costs and no minimum order quantity.

Commenting, Martin Brooks, Technical Director of Abacus Group, said, “eASIC Nextreme Structured ASIC devices can cost as little as 20% of an FPGA, consume 20% of the power of an FPGA and perform 4 times faster than an FPGA, while maintaining FPGA-like qualities of no MOQs, no mask charges, and a 4 week manufacturing lead time. Add to this a growing IP portfolio from eASIC, and you have a very exciting proposition for UK designers.” He added, “eASIC has a great technology and a great team – I am delighted that they have chosen Abacus as their partner in the UK.”

“Our new partnership with Abacus Group represents a strategic extension to our regional service and support for eASIC Nextreme products in Europe,” said Fred Lancia, eASIC’s Vice President of Sales. “We are looking forward to working closely together to strengthen the presence of our breakthrough Structured ASIC products in Europe, joining forces to provide world class sales support and superior customer service. This addition to our global sales strategy helps in building market share and augmenting revenue.”

About eASIC

eASIC is a fabless semiconductor company offering breakthrough Structured ASIC devices aimed at dramatically reducing the overall fabrication cost and time of customized semiconductor chips. Low-cost, high-performance and fast-turn ASIC and System-on-Chip designs are enabled through patented technology of FPGA-like programmable logic coupled with ASIC-like Via-layer customizable routing. This innovative fabric efficiently employs mask-less customization with Direct-write e-Beam, and thus allows eASIC to offer Structured ASICs with no mask-charges.
